An early rise at 2am, a 2 hour drive to London’s Heathrow airport, a 1 hour 20 minute flight, a train journey and a taxi journey were all necessary in order for Dr Devon Mothersille to get to the CEN/TC 250/SC 7 joint working group meeting in Delft, The Netherlands on 5th December 2019. Dr Mothersille joined fourteen UK representatives and seventy other representatives from all over Europe at the NEN office in Delft.
The purpose of the meeting was initially to establish the status of the three different parts of EC7 (prEN 1997-1, -2 and -3), with particular reference to issues such as partial factors, geotechnical categories and reporting. Through presentations, questions and discussions the aim was to highlight differences between the three parts and make some initial assessment of what further harmonization is required.
The overriding consensus was that the two day meeting was a success and paves the way for a productive 2020.
